Description:
As part of your
course grade, in pairs (maximum 3), you will be required to 'teach' your classmates about a technology tool you find interesting. Ideally, it will be a tool you might use in your project proposals but this is not compulsory. The dates for the technology showcase will be set for each group once everyone has signed up for a tool. There should be 16 pairs or trios.
Preparation:
You should go over the list of tools that we have provided (see link above). This is just to get you started - you may have find a newer tool that you find much more interesting that what is on the list. Feel free to present it - the only criteria is that you feel it is useful for you and your classmates as a possible tool for TEPBLL teaching in the future!
Once you have decided on a tool, sign up in this online document. Please include the names of all the members of your group. Deadline: September 20th (midnight). Remember: There can only be sixteen pairs or trios (there are not enough sessions for more).
Next, as a group you should explore the tool (using 'teacher' criteria) in order to decide the best way to 'teach' this tool to your classmates. You will have 20 minutes in the computer lab to do so which you must prepare accordingly. The 'showcase' is not only about WHAT the technology tool is, it is also about IDEAS of how this tool might be used for teaching a foreign language.

Here are some tips:
- The acoustics are BAD in the computer room (not to mention the temptation that your classmates will have to answer emails, look at videos, update instagram or facebook ...). Think of strategies to deal with this.
- It is NOT a good idea to do a long presentation in the computer room (read previous comment). That said, you can prepare one or two slides to introduce your tool (what is the tool designed to do, is it easy to access, free or paid, etc.).
- You might include url (perhaps use tinyurl) in large text so that your mates can find the tool quickly and easily.
- Try to make the presentation interactive - remember, you will be presenting at the end of a LONG day. How can you make your presentation as engaging as possible?
- Try to have 'online' materials (e-book, online story-creator, blog, whatever) that can serve as guidelines and follow-up materials for your tool. You can use Camtasia or some other screen capture and editing software to do this. You have models to follow by looking at the films prepared for the flipped class materials for the technology workshops.
You will be peer evaluated on your showcase.
